Instructor: Dr. Neil Hendrickson, Bartlett Tree Company

Neil Hendrickson is a Ph.D in Forestry & is the Northeast Technical Researcher for Bartlett Tree.

Classroom session will review the process used for risk assessment and discuss the terms used to describe risk categorization, targets, likelihood of failure and the consequences of failure. A two-page tool using matrixes (Basic Tree Risk Assessment Form) will be reviewed and examples shown on how tree risk is assessed and conclusion is reached. Examples of defective trees and tree parts will be shown and participants will use the matrixes to rate the examples. This exercise will be done in small groups and one member will present the group’s findings.

The group will go outdoors and assess two different trees independently using the same tools. Discussion surrounding the tree's condition will take place while performing the Risk Assessment.

The last ½ hour will be back in the classroom to review the assessments of the live trees.
