Landscape Designer and Author

The builders have left your dream home sitting on a bare lot. Your older house has landscape flaws or lacks creative planting beds. You'd like to improve the look of the entrance, hide the air conditioning unit, or install a brick walkway. With the expert advice of Jane von Trapp, professional landscape designer and CEO of the Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens, you can increase the value of your home and turn your yard into an attractive outdoor living room. You'll also learn about when it's time to call in a professional.

Von Trapp has written three how-tos on landscaping Landscape Doctor (Chapters Publishing), Landscaping From the Ground Up (Taunton Press), and Landscape Makeover Book (Taunton Press). She is the U.S. Researcher and Writer for DK's A-Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants and contributor to several other gardening books and magazines. Owner of her own landscaping firm for nearly 20 years, she brings a wealth of ideas and inspiration to the home gardener, both novice and experienced.

How to Draw Natural Forms of Life

Meet at the Silver Educational Center
Wednesdays 9:30 a.m. - noon
$25 per class

Learn to develop a natural, individual drawing style using forms from nature as your subject. Through close observation we will examine various types of organic forms and explore each form's unique qualities. Movement, use of positive and negative space, exaggeration, choice of composition and employment of light are some of the means of imparting individual materials that will lead us to our discoveries. Please email Kathie Milligan at
swyzzer@aol.com for more information.
