Peter Russell
Board Chairman
Peter Russell, a North Stamford resident for 20 years, was elected the Arboretum’s Board Chairman effective July 1, 2019. Peter has been a member of the Board since October 2015. As Buildings and Grounds Chair since 2016, he has been instrumental in the creation and installation of the Arboretum’s new trail and interpretive signs, upgrades to our facilities, and expansion and renovation of our gardens. In addition to his Board activities, Peter is a UConn Extension Certified Advance Master Gardener. In that capacity, he has chaired the Arboretum’s annual plant sale for the past five years, resulting in increased funding each year for our many children’s programs. Peter also conducts Advanced Master Gardener Workshops for Interns participating in the Master Gardener Program at the Arboretum, along with presentations on weed and invasive plant ID and control to garden clubs and organizations in the region. Peter was awarded the United Way, Annual Stamford Volunteer Day Award as the Outstanding Established Senior Individual Volunteer for 2015.
Peter holds a BA in Political Science from St. John’s University and an MBA in Management from Adelphi University. After serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1969 to 1972 as an Administrative Officer, Peter had a successful career in Human Resource management and consulting.
