Open Reception for Public Art Installation

Join us for an unveiling and opening reception for a new semi-permanent art installation on the grounds of the Bartlett. Japanese artist Akiko Geirin-san and local artists, Laura R. Lavan (Westchester County), and Mark Andreas (Stamford) will be on hand to discuss the project and its journey from inception to the Bartlett.

This collaboration is part of an international artist exchange program, See Saw Seeds, that brings together artists in Japan with local communities across the globe.

Also on display during the unveiling:

Art Kintre: This collaborative work by Japanese artists Rui Sakurai and Yukiko Nakamura is a video performance that will be shown in the Silver Education classroom.

Refreshments will be served. The reception will take place on the Great Lawn.

About the Artists:

Akiko Geirin

Akiko has been working in the field of ceramics for nearly 20 years. Akiko’s artistic process is to create personal meaning and messages through her ceramic works.

Often these messages come through emotional and personal memories of her life.  Akiko’s works contain playful objects, titles, colors, and textures. Akiko has had exhibitions and residences throughout Japan, Europe, and the United States.

Laura R. Lavan

Laura resides in Westchester County and is a multi-media artist. Her sculptural work has been collected by both private collectors as well as public institutions such as town parks, and schools.

Mark Andreas: Mark discovered his career as an artist working as a shipwright carpenter apprentice in northern Germany at the age of 16. Over the next 30 years, Andreas worked as a professional wooden boatbuilder, metal fabricator, home builder, furniture designer, cabinet maker, and freelance carpenter. Parallel to Andreas’ occupation in the hand crafts he has pursued a career as an International artist/sculptor. Andreas’ artworks are in numerous collections and his art has been exhibited throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States. Mark has been teaching visual art and handicrafts for over ten years. He has lectured and conducted workshops at Kobe University Japan, - Groningen University, Netherlands - Aalto University, Finland, - Yale University, and the University of Tennessee.
