4 Week Intro to Botanical Illustration Class - ONLINE

  • Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens 151 Brookdale Road Stamford, CT 06903 (map)

It is a natural progression to move from admiring plants to wanting to express their beauty in art.  This class teaches you how to create a realistic botanical drawing using simple plants from around our homes or local markets.  No prior drawing experience required! Classes will take place each Tuesday, beginning Tuesday, November 8.

You’ll learn to use graphite pencil in a variety of ways to achieve realism.  Demonstrations and simple exercises emphasize key principles and drawing methods.

We will closely examine plant parts individually - stems, leaves and blossoms – to better understand their structure and surface details - and then bring them all together for a complete drawing. Participants are responsible for purchasing their own materials. A materials list and Zoom link will be provided.

INSTRUCTOR

Classes will be led by Kathie Miranda, a contemporary multi-media artist and educator. A graduate of Pace University, with further studies at Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts and Paier College of Art, she coordinated the Art program at the New York Botanical Garden and is past-president of the New York chapter of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators.

Classes are $170 with a 10% discount for Bartlett members.
